I know you’re busy, so I’ll try to keep this as short as possible (or you can skip to the TL;DR version below). Incidently, if you haven’t been here in a couple weeks, this post should get you up to speed fairly quickly.
I’d like to start off by saying that this decision did not come easy. I’ve actually been struggling with it for months, but now that fate has presented itself (in the form of exploding web editors), I’ve finally gone ahead and taken the comic offline. This isn’t to say that you guys will be left hanging; I appreciate each and every one of you who, at some point or other, decided to give this tale a chance- those of you who’ve stuck around since day one, the ones who’ve imparted words of kindness and advice, who’ve been voting for us all this time, and most especially to the handful of you who’ve made donations… you’re the reason I’ve kept this up for as long as I have.
So here’s what’s going to happen:
Mortal Half will continue to exist as a webcomic, but in a slightly different format. In the past four years of the .com’s existence, by far the number one complaint has been omg TOO SLOW!!! As such, the changes I have planned will allow for the story to move forward more swiftly, without detracting too much from its other aspects.
Needless the say, the initial groundwork is going take me some time, but once everything’s in place I expect smooth (and speedy!) sailing till the end. As you might’ve guessed, Mortal Half is sort of an epic- one I’d ideally like to finish before I croak…. which might happen at the current rate of updates.
At the risk of sounding SUPER pretentious, a creator needs to live to stay inspired, which I haven’t been able to do much since embarking on this project. It’s literally EATEN UP my life, and while I truly love this comic to death, I can’t justify spending this much time and effort on something that, quite frankly, doesn’t help pay the bills, not to mention has kept me fettered to my desk every spare moment- hence the aforementioned compromise. I hope you understand.
This was never meant to be a financial endeavor- it’s a labor of love and always has been. However, I’ve come to realize that my once distant dream of getting published has, somehow or other, floated within reach. To make things clear, I’m still producing regular pages (just realllly slowly), with the ultimate goal of seeing the first story arc in print, after which I’ll be switching gears.
As always, thank you, for everything. I’ll keep you guys posted =).
Thoughts and suggestions are always welcome.
